Autism screening tools

These free resources include the original Autism Quotient test I undertook when I first suspected I might be Autistic. I provide them in that spirit; essentially for those of you who might suspect, who may have suspected for sometime, but do not know.

Autism Quotient (AQ)

This diagnostic questionnaire has been designed to measure Autistic traits. It’s the screening tool I first used – the one that started it all. I think I ended up taking it about 10 times because I couldn’t believe how I was scoring!

The Ritvo Autism Asperger’s Diagnostic Scale (RAADS)

The RAADS formed part of my official Autism assessment at the end of 2022. The comments from the results stated: Glenn’s score of 28 is well above the cut-off score of 14 that indicates a full assessment is warranted. The RAADS is a screening tool designed specifically for adults, particularly those who earlier in life missed being diagnosed Autistic, which was the case for me.

Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire

(CAT-Q) The CAT-Q measures the degree to which you might be using camouflaging or ‘masking’ strategies. I cover this in detail in my article ‘What is Autistic masking and why do we do it?‘ You can access the relevant journal article about the CAT-Q here: Camouflaging in Autism: Age Effects and Cross-Cultural Validation of the Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire (CAT-Q)

Adult Repetitive Behaviours Questionnaire-2 (RBQ-2)

This was another test that formed part of my formal Autism assessment. The RBQ-2 questionnaire measures repetitive behaviours in adults. It’s a short test, but you have to score it yourself when you’ve completed it.
